Since our first Sheltie litter in
1989, we have bred or owned 137
Champions, including four National
Specialty Best of Breed winners and
numerous Best in Specialty and Best
in Show winners. We have
breeder-owner-handled the #1
Conformation Dog in the Herding
Group in Canada in 1995. We
are proud to have produced three ROM
and 13 ROMC titlists.
We are most proud of our
accomplishments at the most
competitive Sheltie venue in the
world, the American Shetland
Sheepdog Association (ASSA) National
Specialty, where we won Best of
Breed, twice Best of Opposite Sex,
Best of Winners and eight Awards of
Merit, with six different dogs.
We both have had the privilege
of judging several Specialty
Sweepstakes in Canada and the US,
and Kim is truly honoured to have
been the 2010 ASSA
Futurity judge.
We are a hobby breeder and have
been breeding Shelties with the Laureate Prefix since
1989.Prior
to that, Kim had Gordon Setters. Her first
Gordon, Can. Ch. Grianan Keltic Shelagh, had a litter in
1980 and again in 1982.From the first
litter came Kim's first homebred Champion, Can. Ch.
Grianan Morgan, co-owned with Margaret Bocking,
Shelagh's breeder. In 1987, both Gordons passed away and we were
looking for a dog for our new home. Kim's family
had Shelties as pets since 1971 and Pete was very taken
with them, so we went looking for a show
prospect.We
purchased Wyndspell Aston Ceilidh from Wanda
Holmes in Cardinal Ontario. Ceilidh was one of the
smartest dogs we’ve ever known and soon obtained
her CDX and two Dog World awards. She had a
beautiful soft expression, but after a trip to the U.S.
National, we decided that she wasn’t what we wanted in a
foundation female.
Kim and "Morgan" 1982
The trip to the
National put us in contact with Chris Lynch of Westwind Shelties in California and several
months later we were able to purchase a young female,
who became the foundation for Laureate Shelties.
"Holly" was 14 inches and had
tremendous quality. After her first litter it was
evident that she consistently passed along her good
qualities, which is very rare in Shelties. She is an
American Shetland Sheepdog Association Top Producing
Dam, and is the only Sheltie female to have both the ROM
(Record of Merit) and ROMC (Register of Merit Canadian)
titles. She has produced six American and eleven
Canadian Champion, and her full name is American/Canadian Champion Krystalyn Just An Illusion,
ROM/ROMC.
Holly’s first litter produced the
multiple Specialty Best of Breed winner and multiple
Best in Show winner, Am/Can Ch.
Laureate Starlight Express along with her Specialty
winning sister, Am/Can Ch.
Laureate Search Party.Starlight
Express, or “Sparkle” as she was known around the house,
was the Top Sheltie in Canada and also the Top
conformation dog in the Herding Group in 1995.She
also won Best of Breed at the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog
Association National Specialty. Sparkle is the top
breeder-owner-handled Sheltie in
Canada.
Holly’s aunt was purchased to add
to the gene pool, and “Chelsea” or Ch.
Cahaba-Krystalyn Dream West, produced our Best in
Show winner, Am/Can Ch.
Laureate Laredo, ROMC.“Dallas” was a
top producer as well and the sire of multiple Best in
Specialty Show Am/Can Ch.
Laureate Santana, ROMC.“Tanner” is the
top winning sable merle Sheltie of all time.Tanner has won
three Awards of Merit at the ASSA National and is an
ASSA and CSSA National Specialty Best of Breed
winner!
We have bred or owned 137
Champions since 1989, with four National Specialty
Best of Breed winners, Multiple Best in Specialty
winners, Multiple Best in Show winners, 41 American
Champions, 91 Canadian Champions, 2
Japanese Champions, 1 Brazilian Champion, 1 Chilean
Champion, 1 Korean Champion and many Top
Producers.
We breed several well thought out
litters
each year, and have waiting lists for both show and
companion puppies. Our puppies are home raised and
are tattooed and vet checked before leaving.
Our companion puppies are ready to
go around eight or nine weeks of age. Our show
puppies usually stay a while longer. We carefully
screen prospective buyers, as we are looking to place
our puppies in the best possible homes, with the
understanding that the puppy is a lifetime
commitment.
We guarantee
our puppies to be in good health at the time of sale and
provide a two-year temperament and genetic health
guarantee.
